The San Diego Padres will likely be active at the trade deadline

With righty starting pitchers Chris Young and Jake Peavy both injured the Padres will be without the top two trade chips they have unless they were to move Adrian Gonzalez which would be a huge mistake. Closer Heath Bell is the best player the Padres might decide to trade but I think they would be smarter to just keep him. Starting 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff would likely bring a nice return because the Astros, Mariners, Red Sox, Brewers, Marlins and Reds all would possibly want him. The Astros, Mariners and Marlins would likely bring the most in return because those teams are all desperate for a power hitting 3B. Righty starting pitchers Kevin Correia and Chad Gaudin could also be popular because the Padres wouldn’t require a huge bounty for either one. That being said the price could got up because teams like the Angels, Brewers, Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers, Tigers and Yankees could all use some help in the rotation. Also likely to be popular are righty relievers Cla Meredith and Mike Adams. Meredith would bring back more because he has been healthy all season and Adams is just coming back from injury. Meredith would likely draw interest from teams like the Angels, Braves, Marlins, Rays and the Rockies. Mike Adams would likely just bring back a fringe prospect from the Angels, Braves, Rays or Rockies. This is a very important month for the Padres as they build towards a hopefully bright future.
