The Padres have placed 25-year old righty swinging OF/1B Kyle Blanks on the 15-day disabled list due to a left shoulder strain. Blanks has played in 4 games for the Padres this year and he is 1 for 5 (.200 avg, .533 OPS). He has now played in 146 games in his first four years in the majors and he is 93 of 425 (.219 avg, .737 OPS) with 59 runs scored, 20 homers, 63 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Blanks has been a disappointment for the Padres the last couple of years.

UPDATE: (4/22/2012) - Kyle Blanks is officially done for the season as he needs surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder.

The San Diego Padres place Dustin Moseley on the D.L.

The Padres have placed 30-year old righty starting pitcher Dustin Moseley on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right shoulder. Moseley started against the Dodgers yesterday and he worked 5 innings in which he gave up 5 hits, 5 runs (all earned), walked 2 batters and whiffed four. The Padres have recalled 24-year old lefty reliever Josh Spence to replace Moseley on the roster and the pitching staff. Spence pitched in 40 games (0 starts) for the Padres last year as a rookie and he was 0-2 with a 2.73 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP.

UPDATE: (4/21/2012) - Dustin Moseley needs shoulder surgery and he will likely miss the rest of this year.

The San Diego Padres place Tim Stauffer on the D.L.

The Padres have placed 29-year old righty starting pitcher Tim Stauffer on the 15-day disabled list due to a right triceps injury. Stauffer pitched in 31 games (all starts) for the Padres last year and he was 9-12 with a 3.73 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He has now pitched in 95 games (69 starts) in his first six years in the majors and he is 23-31 with a 3.92 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. The Padres hope to get Stauffer back in mid to late April.

The San Diego Padres place Mark Kotsay on the D.L.

The Padres have placed 36-year old lefty swinging OF/1B Mark Kotsay on the 15-day disabled list due to a right calf strain. Kotsay played in 104 games for the Brewers last year and he was 63 of 233 (.270 avg, .703 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 3 homers, 31 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He has now played in 1,728 games in his first 15 years in the majors and he is 1,717 of 6,166 (.278 avg, .745 OPS) with 773 runs scored, 124 homers, 694 RBIs and 98 stolen bases. This is going to hurt the Padres’ bench as they are counting on Kotsay to be one of their top pinch hitters in 2012.

The San Diego Padres place Logan Forsythe on the D.L.

The Padres have placed 25-year old righty swinging 2B Logan Forsythe on the 15-day disabled list due to a broken left foot. He will likely be out at least six more weeks. Forsythe played in 62 games for the Padres last year in his first taste of the majors and he was 32 of 150 (.213 avg, .568 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 0 homers, 13 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. This shouldn’t hurt the Padres too much going forward.
