The San Diego Padres lose Kyle Blanks for the season
The Padres have likely lost rookie outfielder Kyle Blanks for the season due to a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot. The 22-year old righty swinging Blanks played in 54 games this season for the Padres and he was 37 for 148 (.250 avg, .868 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 10 homers and 22 RBIs. He was starting to show why he was considered the Padres’ top prospect coming into this season according to Baseball America. Blanks will probably be the starting LF for the Padres next season unless they do something dumb like trading Adrian Gonzalez in which case he would start at 1B for them. Blanks will need to work on making more contact at the plate as he whiffed 55 times for the Padres this season in only 148 ABs if he is going to truly realize his full potential.
