The Padres have placed outfielder Scott Hairston on the 15-day disabled list due to strained left biceps. He has played in 43 games for the Padres this season and he is 48 for 147 (.327 avg, .956 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 8 homers, 23 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. The Padres have recalled Will Venable to take Hairston’s place on the active roster. He has played in 53 games in AAA-ball this season and he is 52 for 200 (.260 avg, .849 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 12 homers and 30 RBIs. This is a huge blow to the Padres as Hairston was the only other player besides Adrian Gonzalez who was ripping the baseball.

The Padres have traded 34-year old righty swinging outfielder Emil Brown to the Mets for a player to be named later. Brown has played in 44 games in AAA-ball this season and he is 41 for 158 (.259 avg, .763 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 4 homers, 23 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Padres might have been smarter to keep Brown and give them a chance to score some more runs with the offense being pretty pathetic outside of Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Hairston. Brown has played in 736 games in his major league career and he is 580 for 2,244 (.258 avg, .721 OPS) with 296 runs scored, 59 homers, 326 RBIs and 52 stolen bases.
