The San Diego Padres claim two pitchers off waivers
With this season officially a lost one the Padres want to look at as many players as they can. With that in mind the Padres have claimed 24-year old starter Charlie Haeger (from White Sox) and 29-year old reliever Scott Patterson (from Yankees) off waivers. Haeger is a righty knuckleballer who has pitched in 28 games (25 starts) in AAA this season in which he is 10-13 with a 4.45 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Haeger has also pitched in 15 games (1 start) in his major league career and he is 1-2 with 1 save, a 4.85 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. Scott Patterson is a righty reliever who has pitched in 42 games (0 starts) in AAA this season and he was 2-1 with 5 saves, a 3.80 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Patterson has whiffed 54 batters in only 47.1 innings in AAA this year which likely has caught the eye of Padres’ management. Patterson has also pitched in 1 game for the Yankees this season and he was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA and a 2.25 WHIP. These were both good low risk moves for the Padres who are always looking for talented pitchers to take a chance on.
