Jody Gerut is having a good season for the San Diego Padres
The Padres didn’t expect much from outfielder Jody Gerut when spring training started as he hadn’t played in the major leagues since 2005 with the Pirates. He missed a lot of time due to surgeries on his knees but he kept his nose to the grindstone hoping that he would get another chance at playing in the big leagues. The Padres have given him that chance this season and he has played pretty well for them this season. Gerut has played in 55 games for the Padres this season and he is 52 for 186 (.280 avg, .748 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 4 homers, 16 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. It’s possible that Gerut could even get more playing time in the 2nd half if the Padres decide to wave the White Flag on the season and move some veterans in trades.
