The San Diego Padres place Michael Barrett on the D.L.
The Padres have placed catcher Michael Barrett on the 15-day disabled list with a broken nose. Barrett has played in 30 games with the Padres this season and he is 19 for 94 (.202 avg, .572 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs. This will really hurt the Padres as starting catcher Josh Bard is already on the D.L. The Padres have recalled 24-year old, righty swinging Nick Hundley from AAA to replace Barrett likely as the starter until Barrett or Bard are ready to return from the D.L. Hundley has played in 58 games this season in AAA ball and he is 52 for 224 (.232 avg, .736 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 12 homers and 39 RBIs. Hundley will likely be the starter because backup catcher Luke Carlin is clearly overmatched in the majors. Carlin has played in 21 games for the Padres this season and he is 10 for 67 (.149 avg, .464 OPS) with 8 runs scored and 2 RBIs.
