The San Diego Padres acquire Cha-Seung Baek from the Mariners
The Padres have acquired 28-year old righty swingman Cha-Seaun Baek from the Mariners for 26-year old righty Jared Wells. Baek is more effective as a starter and the Padres might just throw him into the starting rotation due to the injuries to Jake Peavy and Chris Young. Baek has pitched in 10 games (1 start) for the Mariners this season and he was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. He has now pitched in 37 games (24 starts) in his major league career and he is 10-9 with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. Baek is a flyball pitcher who should benefit from pitching half his games at Petco Park. Jared Wells was just recently called up by the Padres. In two games with them, Wells was 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. This was a good move for the Padres.
